Palmetto State baseball team of the week, March 31-April 6: Francis Marion

Francis Marion gave first-year coach Jeff Jefferson wins in his first eight games. The Patriots have not pushed that into second place on his personal winning streak list, behind the current 11-game string capped by a weekend sweep of Emmanuel.

Nine of those wins have been against Carolinas Conference opposition, pushing FMU into first place in the league with two weekend series remaining.

The Patriots have been doing it with a balance of offense and pitching,. Rijnaldo Euson has thrown seven-inning shutouts his last two starts, lowering his ERA to 2.65.

FMU is hitting.302 as a team with Charlie Bussey III leading the way with a .448 mark. He has a a .724 slugging percentage and a.560 on-base percentage.

Up next: at USC Aiken on Tuesday, followed by a weekend set at UNC Pembroke.
