North Greenville (4-0 for the week)
(beat North Georgia; beat Lander; went 2-0 vs. Limestone)
As usual, North Greenville (36-8) is hitting its stride as the postseason approaches. The Trailblazers went 4-0 for the week to extend their winning streak to 12 games.
While North Greenville didn't play a conference game, it moved into a three-way tie for first place in Conference Carolinas when previous leader Francis Marion lost two of three against UNC Pembroke.
NGU, Barton and Young Harris are 17-7 in the conference, one game ahead of Francis Marion and two up on Belmont Abbey. But coach Landon Powell's club lost head-to-head series against Barton, Belmont Abbey and Young Harris should there be a tie for first place. NGU and Francis Marion did not meet.
The Trailblazers are hitting .323 as a team, led by Brett Blomquist's .435 mark. Powell has been able to mix and match - 13 players have started 13 or more games.
North Greenville entered the season needing to find a replacement for ace Reece Fields, who thrice won 11 or more games as part of a 40-win career. Matty Brown and Brody Fowler have been effective at the front end of games, with a deep - and talented - bullpen available to close things out.
