Can we talk?

Hi. Remember me?

I'm sorry I abandoned this website and college baseball in South Carolina so quickly after the end of the 2025 season.

I realized I was burned out and wasn't in the right frame of mind to do a good job,

I had printed out final stats from 2025 so I could select all-state teams and list statistical leaders, then came to the conclusion that doing so would be more of a chore than enjoyment.

I started Palmetto State Baseball in December 2008 because I wanted to write about college baseball and wasn't getting many chances to do so in my regular job with The Greenville News. I also wanted to give coverage to all levels of college baseball in South Carolina. NCAA Division I doesn't have a monopoly on good baseball.

It's never been about money. Blogspot, which hosts this site, allows ad revenue based on clicks/ad views. I think I've received $300 total in 16-plus years.

I've never considered selling subscriptions because there's no way I could provide fans of a team enough exclusive content to make it worth their investment.

It might be easier to cut back to covering NCAA DI teams only, but many of those schools have websites covering them and fans of schools not in Division I don't have many options to read about their team.

I've been proud of being able to provide a composite daily schedule for every team in the state. For years, I've been able to link to box scores. In the past few years, I've also tried include a highlight sentence on most games, as well as selecting a player of the day.

I've also provided a team of the week and statewide rankings by division. I've also tried to include a roundup of news items involving state teams.

Also, the time I spend updating schedules and scores is time I can't spend watching games in person.

All of this is time-consuming, and not as much fun as it used to be.

I don't want to totally shut the site down, but I'm looking for a way to avoid being anchored to a computer for hours at a time.

I posted a poll asking your input, but couldn't get it into the right format. I'm going to try again, but in the meantime please use the comments section of this post please tell me what you'd like to see me do with Palmetto State Baseball this season.

What do you like? What do you not like? What can I do differently?

Thanks, and I hope your team wins them all this season.

Rudy

I love everything about palmettostatebaseball. From January to June, it's a site I check every day, so I am super grateful for your work.
I am typically more concerned with scores, standings, and news, so cutting back on some of the other stuff would not bother me.
I would pay for this site, as long as it weren't outrageous of course!

I enjoy all of the content year around and especially during the season (and certainly have a good idea of the workload involved). But to trim time, if there is one aspect that I appreciate most during the college baseball season, it's the daily schedule followed by quick links to box scores upon the game's completion. That alone takes me to what I want to know in one spot, and I can navigate it quickly. Thank you for a job well done all these years, you have spoiled us!

I love the site Rudy. I was actually going to message you because I was concerned with the lack of updates. I generally only ever look at D1 information. I really enjoy your team rankings and end of the day round up/ player of the day. Hope you’re doing well!

Thanks for the input and support. I'm still trying to come up with the right mix to keep people coming to the site.

Thanks, Austin. Maybe it's time for me to concentrate on schedules/scores with anything else being a bonus. Keep up the good work you do on Diamond Prospects.
