Briefly: A pair of last-at bat rallies allowed No. 8 Florence-Darlington Tech to break ties and win twice on the opening day of the of the Visit Panama City Beach Classic. The Stingers broke a 7-7 deadlock with seven runs in the sixth inning - four on Gabe Herold's grand slam - to beat Chattahoochee Valley in the opener  Herold had a single and a solo homer earlier in the game. Against Northwest Florida, Tradd Burton hit a three-run homer in a four-run eighth inning for the extra-inning victory ... Walters State, ranked No. 1 in the PerfectGame.org junior college rankings announced earlier this week, got its third run-rule win over the USC Salkehatchie (0-3) in the opener of a three-game series scheduled hastily after Walters State's home series with Harford was canceled because of the weather forecast. The teams play a pair in Allendale on Friday ... Rio Grande scored five runs in the eighth inning to win Game 1, and went on to sweep Voorhees in a doubleheader moved up a day by weather concerns. It was the first action for the Tigers with Bruce Martin as head coach ... Brant Badeux's two-run double in the seventh inning of Game 2 prevented Columbia International (0-5) from being shut out twice at Point.
