The Wofford article is very interesting in the way it is phrased, "..9 student-athletes have either signed National Letters of Intent OR COMMITTED TO JOIN the Terriers in the fall..." This is the way announcements should be phrased when some of the kids are scholarship and some are walkons. However, many schools do not do it this wasy. Many phrase their announcements in such a way that they imply that all of the kids in the announced recruiting class will be on scholarship, when several are actually walkons. Heck, I have seen some announcements flat out claim that they have all signed NLI's when I know that is simply not true. Usually several of the kids in the class end up getting cut in the fall, proving that they were not on scholarship.

The moral of the story? Take announcements of recruiting classes with a grain of salt.
