News Digest, February 13

Two games postponed
Mars Hill's game at Limestone and Young Harris's game at Southern Wesleyan on Tuesday have been postponed because of prospects for inclement weather in the North Carolina and Georgia mountains.  The Mars Hill-Limestone game was rescheduled for Wednesday. No makeup date was announced for the Young Harris-Southern Wesleyan game.

Shaffer honored
Clemson's Richie Shaffer was the only player from a state school to be named first-team preseason all-American by Baseball America. Shaffer was listed at designated hitter. South Carolina first baseman Christian Walker was a second-team choice in voting by Major League Baseball scouting directors.

South Carolina's Michael Roth did not make the preseason squad chosen by the newspaper, but the Baseball America coverboy was honored by being the namesake of  the "Roth Stars," talented players who "fly under the radar." He didn't make that team, either.
