Searching for juicier baseballs
Aaron Fitt of Baseball America reports some coaches are interested in using a livelier baseball to help compensate for the loss of power under the BBCOR bat standards. Fitt reports Clemson coach Jack Leggett is one of the major proponents to switching to a baseball similar to the one used in professional leagues.
Fitt's other notes from the American Baseball Coaches Association Convention include news that instant replay at the College World Series will be expanded to include fair/foul calls and the naming of regional hosts will come at 9 p.m. on the Sunday before Selection Monday to allow more time to consider results of Sunday conference tournament championship games.
Former USC athletic director Eric Hyman, now at Texas A&M, is on the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee.
