Tigers making marks in pro, amateur leagues
Clemson has posted an update of how some of its former players are faring in their professional careers. The school also posted updates on how its players are faring in summer collegiate leagues.

Spartans hire Saberhagen
Drew Saberhagen has been hired as pitching coach at USC Upstate. Saberhagen, the son of former Major Leaguer Bret Saberhagen, had been at Newberry the last two seasons.

Koumas to miss 2014 season
Rising senior right-hander Forrest Koumas will miss the 2014 season for the University of South Carolina as he recovers from Tommy John surgery. Koumas, from Lugoff-Elgin High School, struggled during the 2013 season making 10 appearances and compiling an 8.35 ERA with a 0-0 record. He made four starts.

Tigers get commitment
Summerville right-handed pitcher Sawyer Bridges has committed to play for Clemson, TheDiamondProspects.com reports. He will be in the class of 2016. The site has several other commitments for state schools

Coker offers season highlight DVD
Coker has produced a highlight video for the 2013 season. The Cobras reached the NCAA Division II World Series for the first time.

Nichols gets new duties
Erskine coach Kevin Nichols has been given additional duties with the Flying Fleet. He will serve as assistant athletic director fpr recruiting and external operations.

Five USC Beaufort players were selected to play in all-star games for their respective collegiate summer league teams.

Lancers set tryout date
USC Lancaster will hold tryouts for its baseball team Aug. 24 at Lancaster High School.

Fire Ants could be near choice
USC Sumter is believed to be close to naming a replacement for Tom Fleenor as head coach, although the school still has the opening listed on the school's Website as of Tuesday night.

Gray Military has a coach
Columbia school Gray Military Academy, which is starting a baseball program, reports on its Website that it has hired a coach but does not identify him (or her). The school will compete on the postgraduate level. Junior colleges are expected to be on the schedule.

Bradley No. 21
Former USC standout Jackie Bradley Jr. is No. 21 on Baseball America's Midseason Top 50 Prospects list. Bradley started the season with the Boston Red Sox but has seen most of his action in AAA. Tampa Bay pitcher Taylor Guerrieri, a former USC commitment, is No. 29 on the list.

Shaw drops baseball
I missed this last month, but Shaw University has dropped its baseball program. The Raleigh school is a member of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The Bears regularly played some HBCUs from South Carolina. It's never good to see a school drop baseball. Here's hoping the program is revived in the future

USA, Japan resume series
The U.S. Collegiate National Team and a squad of Japanese college all-stars resume their series with a game at 5 a.m.Wednesday. A link to live stats is below. USC catcher Grayson Greiner is on the U.S. team.
