Sorry for the sporadic updates. I guess I'm dealing with the Summertime Blues, and as, Eddie Cochran famously wrote, there ain't no cure for the Summertime Blues.

Rice's Graham calls for new ball
Rice coach Wayne Graham recently wrote an open letter calling for college baseball to use a different, livelier baseball. His epistle came after a particularly low-scoring College World Series. Former The Citadel players Chip Cannon and Dan McDonnell have been selected for induction into The Citadel's Athletic Hall of Fame. McDonnell coached Louisville to the College World Series in 2013.

Mr. Thompson goes to Omaha
The Citadel has posted a video feature on Bo Thompson's trip to Omaha for the College Home Run Derby. Thompson, a Mann High graduate did the best of the three South Carolinians in the event. The others were Clemson's Garrett Boulware and USC's Joey Pankake.

Dave Schmotzer, who coached Coker to the NCAA Division II World Series, today was named Southeast Region Division II coach of the year by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

University of South Carolina junior Grayson Greiner went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs as the U.S. Collegiate National Team beat the Metro Collegiate Baseball League, 16-2, Tuesday. The Americans open a five-game series with Cuba on Thursday.Included are games at Cary, N.C, on Monday and Durham next Tuesday.
