Sorry for the slow updates. I've been doing some college & high school football preview work, which pays more than this site. Or course, picking up cans and bottles for recycling pays more than this site.

Wolves' Barbieri honored
Newberry's Eric Barbieri has been named to Jewish Sports Review's all-American team for 2013Barbieri hit .335 with 16 doubles, 8 home runs and 46 RBIs. He played designated hitter, outfield and first base. Barbieri was named to the South Atlantic Conference's all-tournament team. He went 7-for-16 with four doubles, a homer and three RBIs.

Patriots add six players
Four South Carolinians are among six players Francis Marion has signed for the 2014 season. The South Carolinians are  infielder Graham Herrington of Galivants Ferry, S.C., right-handed pitcher of Bethune, catcher William Robbins of Rock Hill and Bryce Saunders of Aiken.

Winthrop has signed four junior college players for the 2014 season, including pitcher Travis Shelley of USC Lancaster.

Greiner talks of Team USA experience
USC catcher Grayson Greiner gives TheBigSpur.com his impressions of spending the summer as part of the U.S. Collegiate National Team. The American went 20-3, including a five-game sweep of Cuba. All three losses were suffered in Japan.

BC official, Davidson coach honored
Pete Frates of Boston College's support staff and and Davidson coach Dick Cooke have been named winners of the 2013 Tom Walter College Baseball Inspiration Award by CollegeBaseballInsider.com. Frates, director of baseball operations for BC, is battling Lou Gehrig's Disease and Cooke coached the 2013 season after being  seriously injured in a traffic accident in 2012. The award is named for Tom Walter, the Wake Forest coach who donated a kidney to Demon Deacons freshman Kevin Jordan prior to the 2011 season.

Rosters have been announced for the six teams in The DianmondProspects.com's Palmetto Games high school-age tournament Aug. 10-11 at Carolina Stadium in Columbia.

Clark Scolamiero of Greenville High and the Southeast team won the home run hitting competition in connection with the Big League World Series completed last week in Easley. His committed to USC.

Greenville team wins
The Southeast team scored six runs in the bottom of the six and beat Venezuela of in the BLWS championship. College of Charleston recruit Bradley Jones and Clemson recruits Grant Cox and Glenn Batson were among the other contributors.
