Winthrop pitcher Josh Strong is ranked as the No. 8 pitching prospect in the Florida Collegiate Summer League by SummerBaseballInsider.com. Strong played for the DeLand Suns.

Mackert rejoins Bulldogs
Former The Citadel player Justin Mackert as rejoined the Bulldogs program as a volunteer assistant coach.

Gamecocks open workouts
The University of South Carolina will begin fall practice with workouts this weekend, including three scrimmages. Weekday scrimmages this fall will be closed to the public because of construction work. The Saturday and Sunday workouts are open the the public.

Scheduling news
Schools are beginning to release their 2014 schedules. Here are some I've found.
* Eastern Michigan will begin its season with three games at Clemson Feb. 14-16

* Northern Kentucky will play host to Atlantic Sun rival USC Upstate April 11-14.
NKU
* I thought I had posted this already but couldn't find it. Auburn's 2014 schedule includes home series against Presbyterian (Feb. 28-March 1) and South Carolina (April 18-20).

* Ohio State's schedule includes a Feb. 22 game against The Citadel in Orlando at a tournament hosted by Central Florida.
