Cougars announce schedule
The College of Charleston today announced its 2014 schedule. It is the Cougars' first season in the Colonial Athletic Association. The schedule includes a split three-game series with The Citadel, home-and-home series with Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina and USC Upstate and a game at South Carolina. Former Southern Conference rivals Furman and Wofford are not on the schedule.
Mini-rant: I hope CofC officials find whatever additional NCAA basketball tournmament money they get adequate compensation for the lost rivalries and possible RPI hit the baseball program takes in a weaker league.

Recruiting
Georgia Regents University Augusta (formerly Augusta State) of the Peach Belt Conference has announced a 13-player recruiting class. None of the players has direct ties to South Carolina.

* Blue Ridge LHP Robert Westenreider has agreed to play for Newberry.

* Socastee IF./RHP Bubba Martin has announced his intention to play for Richmond.

* Socastee IF/RHP Dylan Thompson plans to play for Coastal Carolina.

National note
* The U.S. Military Academy has terminated the contract of baseball coach Joe Sottolano. Replacing him on an interim basis for 2014  will be assistant coach Matt Reid. Reid's previous coaching stops including UNC Asheville, VMI and Louisburg.
