Baseball America reports the NCAA has completed its study of flat seam baseballs and raised seam baseballs. Research shows the flat-seam baseballs travel farther, but do not leave the bat at a velocity to negatively impact player safety. The Division I Baseball Committee is expected to discuss the possible change in baseballs in a November meeting.

IS A VOTE ON NEW BASEBALLS COMING?
Lou Pavlovich Jr. of Collegiate Baseball stated in an recent article that the American Baseball Coaches Association will be holding a vote on using a flat seam baseball.
When will the vote take place? No one seams to know.
Media relations representatives for Clemson and USC contacted Jack Leggett and Chad Holbrook for me, but neither coach was aware of when such a vote would take place. The ABCA's annual convention takes place in January.
I was referred to Dave Keilitz, director of the ABCA, and sent an e-mail seeking information. I have yet to receive a response.
The Collegiate Baseball article says the NCAA is testing flat seam and raised seam baseball to research if there is a difference in how far the balls travel.
Test results are expected to be available in time for a November meeting of the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee.
Any changes would not be effective for 2014 season.
