Information provided by USC Sumter coach Tim Medlin, who is in his first year as head coach at the school.
We are very inexperienced on the
mound. We do not have overpowering arms. We do have a solid group
of sophomores who are strike throwers but they lack game experience. They
were very solid in the fall.
Offensively we have lots of question
marks. We return one of last year’s top four hitters and he was injured
most of the fall. We don’t have any power in the middle of the lineup and
we are very average when it comes to team speed. We do catch it and throw
it well. Defensively we are very solid.
Ryan Perkins (2B), Taylor
Kellner (OF), Trevor Bradley (SS) are our top returnees. Will Thompson (3B),
Andrew Reardon (1B, DH) will have to contribute heavily if we are going to be
successful.
Victor Gonzalez, Trevor Bradley,
Corey Sox, all right-handers, will be heavily relied upon to lead the pitching
staff. Also being counted on are Fernando Pinillos, Jamie Strock, Dylan
Miller, Dillon Hodge, David Sauer, Zach Bridgeman and Brett
Auckland. Auckland will also see duty in the outfield.
Taylor Place will start behind
the plate with plenty of competition from Brett Duckett, Mason Brett, and Ray
Murphy. John Mark Hughes provides a great option at first base and the DH
slot.
Hopefully we can find a way to
compete for a spot in the middle of Region X somewhere behind SMC, USC
Lancaster, Florence-Darlington Tech, Pitt Community College, Guilford Tech and
Louisburg.
