Florida used two walks and six hits to score six runs in the third inning and beat South Carolina, 9-5, in the opener of an SEC series in Gainesville Thursday night.

The Gamecocks (20-14, 3-10) got four baserunners over the first three innings but failed to score. Florida (23-13, 5-8) made the most of its first baserunners of the game.

Florida pitchers walked eight and hit two Gamecocks batters, but USC mustered just five hits. Two were by Jacob Olson.
