Bob Jones gets bid to Christian colleges tournament

First-year program Bob Jones is going to the postseason with a chance to win a national championship.

The team received a bid to a National Christian College Athletic Association regional tournament involving independent schools beginning Monday.  The Bruins, coached by Brent Casteel, will compete with six other schools to qualify for the NCCAA World Series later this month in Easley and Central.

The Bruins (6-24) will play No. 2 seed Kansas Christian at 12:30 p.m. EDT Monday at the Tyson Sports Complex in Springdale, Ark. BJU is the lowest seed in the event and the only entry not to have played any of the other schools during the regular season.

Host school Ecclesia College is the top seed for the three-day, double-elimination event.

Games will be held on two fields, with starting times slightly staggered.

The NCCAA is based in Greenville. Six other regionals - including the South Regional May 13-15  at Toccoa Falls (Ga.) College - are listed on the organization's Website. Other regional pairings have yet to be revealed. Ten teams will compete in the NCCAA World Series May 21-25. Games will be played at Southern Wesleyan University and the J.B. "Red" Owens Complex in Easley.

Other NCCAA members from South Carolina are Columbia International, Erskine, North Greenville and Southern Wesleyan. North Greenville will be hosting the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional a few days after the NCCAA World Series, so the Crusaders would seem to be unlikely to participate.

It is unknown if any of the other teams will be invited to the South Regional. Erskine competed in 2018 and North Greenville won the World Series in 2010.
