Stingers eliminated
Top-seeded Crowder scored six runs in the eighth inning to take the lead and held on to beat Florence-Darlington Tech, 9-8, in an elimination game at the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Colo.
The Stingers (46-8) scored three runs in the first inning and were up 5-4 entering the eighth. A grand slam capped the outburst to put Crowder up, 9-6. Tech scored on a wild pitch/error and a single by Scott McDonough before being retired in the ninth.
Crowder survived despite committing seven errors. Radio announcers broadcasting the game suggested at least one of the Stingers' hits could have been scored an error.
