Big South: Blue Hose punch NCAA ticket

Presbyterian (22-21) tied the score with two runs in the eighth and scored three in the ninth to beat top seed Campbell, 8-5, to win the Big South Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It is the first Big South Tournament title and first NCAA Division I Tournament bid in school history. Eric Toth drew a bases-loaded walk to break a 5-5 tie and Tournament MVP Zacchaeus Rasberry added a two-run single in the winning rally. Toth also singled, homered, drove in four runs and pitched the ninth inning to get the save for coach Elliott Pollock's squad..

NJCAA: Stingers shut out in opener

McLennan scored three runs in the first inning and a pair of pitchers shut out Florence-Darlington Tech's high-octane offense on five singles in the first game of the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Colo. The Stingers (46-7) had been averaging more than 10 runs scored per game, but they were shutout of the third time this season. Patrick Matthews had three hits for FD Tech, which plays an elimination game against top-seeded Crowder at 4 p.m. Sunday in Grand Junction, Colo. Stingers hitters struck out 15 times.
