Big South: Blue Hose in championship round


Presbyterian scored four runs in the seventh and three in the ninth to rally past Gardner-Webb, 9-6, to reach Saturday's championship round of the Big South Conference in Fayetteville, N.C.  Zacchaeus Rasberry singled and homered to drive in five runs for the Blue Hose. Eric Toth and Kyle Merkle drove in two runs apiece. PC will have two chances to win one game against Campbell Saturday to take the Big South's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Earlier Friday, USC Upstate was eliminated by Campbell, 5-3. The Camels broke a 3-3 tie in the fifth and held on to advance to another elimination game Friday night.

CAA: Cougars win twice

College of Charleston survived back-to-back elimination games to stay in contention for the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament title. Ari Sechopoulos and Tanner Steffy had three hits and two RBIs apiece in an 8-3 win over William & Mary. Connor Campbell pitched a complete game to allow Cougars coach Chad Holbrook to give his bullpen a break. Harrison Hawkins and Landon Chaboy homered in a five-run sixth as the College dispatched Elon in the second game. The Cougars play again at 1 p.m. Saturday, facing Northeastern. 


NCAA DII Southeast: Crusaders rally, stay alive


North Greenville scored six runs in the eighth inning to rally past top-seeded Catawba and stay alive in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional in Tigerville. Catawba broke a 6-6 tie with a run in the seventh. The go-ahead run scored on a balk, and Brady West and Josh Senter drove in two runs apiece later in the inning. The Indians got the potential tying run to the plate in the ninth before being retired. Senter had a double and two homers to pace the Crusaders.  NGU plays Columbus State at 3 p.m.
Saturday. The schedule may be pushed back because Friday's third game between Mount Olive and Wingate was suspended until 10 a.m. Saturday because of lightning,

SoCon: Wofford survives via walk-off


John Dempsey's second home run of the game kept Wofford's season alive, lifting the Terriers to a walk-off win over Mercer, 8-7, in an elimination game of the Southern Conference Tournament in Greenville. The Terriers trailed 7-3 after 3 1/2 innings. Dempsey's first homer began a three-run sixth, Colin Davis tied the score with a double in the eighth.
