Both Clemson and South Carolina open their conference series on Thursday this week. The Gamecocks are at Mississippi State, while Clemson is at home against Wake Forest. Both games will start at 7 p.m. EDT and will air on the SEC Network and ACC Network, respectively.South Carolina has inserted sophomore Eli Jones (4-0, 1.77) into the pitching rotation as the Game 1 starter, replacing Will Sanders (2-1, 5.17). Sanders, a junior righthander, is projected as an early round pick in the Major League draft, but has not been as effective this season as in his first two years. He has walked 12 batters and allowed seven home runs in 31 1/3 innings over six starts. He was pulled with one out in the fourth inning against Missouri in his last outing after walking six and allowing five runs.
A spokesman for South Carolina told The State newspaper that Sanders is not sidelined with an injury. There was no word on if Sanders will be an option out of the bullpen.
