South Carolina 6, Mississippi State 4 - Eli Jones allowed one run in four innings in his first weekend start of the season and four teammates had two or more hits as No. 9 South Carolina won the opener of a Southeastern Conference series at Mississippi State. The Gamecocks (25-2 overall) are off to a 7-0 SEC start for the first time in school history. Mississippi State, coached by former The Citadel player Chris Lemonis, has lost its last 18 conference games, including seven this season. Jones got the start because usual No. 1 starter Will Sanders struggled last weekend. Clemson transfer Dylan Brewer had two hits, while Michael Braswell, Cole Messina and Ethan Petry added two apiece, including his 14th home run. Messina's seventh-inning homer broke a 3-3 tie and USC never trailed again.
