Palmetto State Baseball team of the week, March 20-26: North Greenville

North Greenville (5-0 for the week)
(beat Lincoln Memorial; beat Mars Hill; went 3-0 vs. UNC Pembroke)

It was supposed to be a challenging weekend series for North Greenville. The nationally top-ranked Crusaders held a 2 1/2 game lead over second-place UNC Pembroke as the 13th-ranked Braves came to Tigerville for the three-game Conference Carolinas series.  A series win or sweep by UNCP could have tightened the title chase considerably.

Instead, coach Landon Powell's Crusaders pushed the lead to 5 1/2 games as the conference schedule enters its second half.

North Greenville is 29-2 and has a 15-game winning streak. The Crusaders opened the season on a 13-game winning streak before losing two of the next three. Mount Olive, which now shares second place with Pembroke, is the only one of North Greenville's four remaining league opponents with a winning record in the conference.

North Greenville is the first two-time team of the week selection of this season.

Up next for the Crusaders:  Lander, Fluor Field in Greenville, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday,
