State scoreboard, Saturday, March 4

South Carolina scored 11 runs in its final three at-bats, capped by Cole Messina's blast off the top of the building behind Fluor Field's Green Monster, and held off Clemson at Fluor Field, 11-9,  to even their series at 1-1.

Clemson, which led 3-0 until the sixth, scored two runs in the ninth and had the tying run at first base when the game ended.

The Tigers (5-5) scored three runs in the fifth on a two-run single by Chad Fairey and a double play. Carolina had a runner thrown out at home trying to score to end the fifth.

USC tied the score in the sixth inning, but Clemson answered with four runs in the seventh.  However, the Gamecocks responded with five runs in the seventh, finished by Carson Hornung's three-run homer.

The Gamecocks scored a run in the eighth and Messina pushed the margin to four with his shot.

Will Taylor's two-run single scored the game's final runs before USC got the final out.

The series concludes at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Founders Park in Columbia.
