Dissa and data, April 17

I've found some spare time on a Monday, so I'm sharing at some stats that piqued my interest.

* Anderson: Shortstop Justin Fox is 22-for-24 in stolen bases and has scored 47 runs, 13 more than any teammate.

* Benedict: Stats from two weekend games against Tuskegee haven't been entered yet, but the Tigers are 162-for-185 in stolen bases in 27 games. Five players have 17 or more steals.

* Bob Jones is 1-23 since a 2-1 start and has committed 57 errors in 27 games.

* Charleston Southern: No player has played in all 35 games this season, and Jaylin Rae (31) is the only one to start in more than 28 games.  Bucs batters have been hit by 68 pitches, led by Ike George (14). Daniel Padysak has a 1.57 ERA and has struck out 40 in 28.2 innings. Opponents are batting .175 against him.

* Claflin: Opponents have a .381 team batting average compared to a .217 for the Panthers. Claflin has been outscored 456-100 and outhomered 36-5. The Panthers are 4-90 in the Peach Belt Conference since joining it as an associate member so it could play a conference schedule.

* Clemson: Unofficially, freshman Cam Cannarella has reached base in all 34 games he has played this season, but he reached only by a fielder's choice in the Georgia game last week, which does not count as being on base. He is batting .408 and has a .488 on base percentage. Caden Grice has struck out 40 in 29.1 innings and is batting .325 with a team-leading eight home runs.  Billy Amick is batting .444 with three homers over his last nine games.

* Coastal Carolina: Darin Horn has struck out 58 batters in 37 innings, while Teddy Sharkey has fanned 41 in 27.

* Coker is 3-9 in one-run games this season.

* College of Charleston: Of Luke Wood's team-leading 7 homers and 32 RBI, 4 and 9, respectively, came in the weekend sweep at Monmouth.

* Columbia International: The weekend sweep of Kentucky Christian has the Rams on a season-high three-game winning streak.

* Erskine has outhomered opponents 68-35 in 40 games and has seven players with five or more home runs. Christian Rivera (13) and Dale Francis Jr. (12) lead the way. Francis is batting .427, has a .524 OBP and a .803 slugging percentage. Johnny Hummel has a 1.40 ERA and has struck out 49 and walked 12 in 25.2 innings. He has six saves and opponents are hitting .116 against him. While Joe Alegre has a 4.58  ERA, he has an 8-2 record and 4-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio (52-13).

* Florence-Darlington Tech has a .330 team batting average and has stolen 143 bases in 160 attempts (89.3 percent). Spenser Hamblen has a 10-0 record, getting a no-decision in just two starts.

* Francis Marion: Will Hardee has a 16-game hitting streak and has reached base in 28 consecutive games. He holds the school record with 60 doubles and has 279 hits, eight behind leader Michael Wilson, with four regular-season games and the Conference Carolinas Tournament remaining.

* Lander split a pair of one-run games on Saturday and is now 4-5 in such games this season.

* Limestone's 18 wins more than quadruple the four wins of a season ago. The six-game winning streak in South Atlantic Conference play has the Saints back in contention for a conference tournament bid. Peter Adams is batting .396 and is batting .460 (23-for-50) during an 11-game hitting streak. He failed to get a hit just five times in his last 38 games.  Marty Neal has struck out 63 in 43.2 innings.

* Morris: Tijawan Black is batting .400 (8-for-20) during a current six-game hitting streak. Other offensive numbers: 10 runs, 8 RBI, 4 2B, 3B, HR. 5 SB. Oh, he's also pitched four times, getting a save and a loss. His other pitching numbers in that span: 7.2 IP, 9 H, 11 R/ER, 15 BB (ouch), 17 K (whoa!). He's batting .423 over his last eight games.

* Newberry had scored in 100 consecutive games back to the 2021 season before being shut out on two hits by Wingate's Mitch Farris on Friday, but that's no disgrace. He is 9-1 with a 1.25 ERA and 109 strikeouts in a 72 innings. Opponents are hitting .134 against him. His only loss came in a relief appearance. Even after being shut down by Farris, the Wolves are batting .331. They've stolen 136 bases in 166 attempts. Braylin Marine (.438, 60 R, 59 RBI, 36 SB) and Donovan Ford (.425, 72 R, 39 SB) lead the way.

* North Greenville has nine players who have played in 34 or more games. All are hitting above .300.  Reliever Michael Rodriguez has 45 strikeouts in 24 innings.

* Presbyterian: Cobbling together a pitching staff with college baseball's 11.7 scholarship is a problem for many schools. Imagine having fewer than that. I don't know how many scholarships Blue Hose coach Elton Pollock has to work with, but my guess is it's it not the max.  Thanks to longtime friend Monte Dutton of LaurensCountySports.com for inspiring this tidbit. There have been nine weekends in the season so far. PC is 5-4 in Game 1s, 6-3 in Game 2s, and 1-8 in Game 3s. That Game 3 win came in Week 2 when the Blue Hose played - and beat - three different opponents.

* South Carolina: After committing 31 errors in their first 33 games, the Gamecocks made eight errors in dropping two of three at Vanderbilt. Nine of the 20 runs Vanderbilt scored were unearned.  USC's 86 homers are one game ahead of Florida Gulf Coast for the NCAA Division I lead. The third-place team with 79 is Florida, which comes to Columbia for three games beginning Thursday. You might want to park at the far end of stadium parking lots. Individually, Florida's Joe Caglianone leads the country with 21 homers, while Carolina's Ethan Petry is third with 18.

* Southern Wesleyan: Cam Mitchem has nine homers and 40 RBI. No teammate has more than three homers or 17 RBI. He has a .602 slugging percentage. The next closest teammate is at .403.

* Spartanburg Methodist: Rhogue Wallace leads Pioneers regulars in batting average (.391), hits (54), doubles (11), home runs (10) and RBI (48). He's also the only player in appear in every game this season.

* The Citadel: While Cameron Reeves (6-2) was a tough-luck loser in Sunday's series finale at UNC Greensboro, he lowered his ERA to a season-low 2.74. He has not walked a batter in his last 17.1 innings. He has given up 3 home runs in 49.1 innings, but the blast allowed Sunday was the first against him since March 10.

* USC Aiken: Pacers reliever Dylan Wilhelm has a 3-3 record but as has yet to allow an earned run in 19.1 innings this season. Technically, he should be 3-2. An unearned run twice saddled him with a run, and an official scorer or statistical glitch at a road game incorrectly assigned him a third loss when a bases-loaded hit by pitch drove in a baserunner who reached against the previous Pacers pitcher. After seeing this, I've e-mailed USCA officials to let them know and they're in the process of getting it corrected.

* USC Beaufort: Since going 7-7 to start the season,  the Sand Sharks have lost 19 of their last 24 games. They have been outscored 128-51 during a 10-game losing streak, with 69 of those runs having come in in the last four games.

* USC Lancaster: Eddie Olmeda leads the Lancers with 40 hits, 30 RBI and 26 stolen bases. He is batting .313.

* USC Salkehatchie has matched its 2022 wins total (4)  and bettered (3) its Region 10 total (2) wth eight regular-season games remaining.

* USC Sumter has had eight Region 10 games canceled by weather this season. The Fire Ants failed to reach 10 hits in a game in four tries against Spartanburg Methodist after having done so eight times in their previous nine games.

*  USC Union: Trent Turner's home run against the Limestone JV on Monday gave him five in a seven-game span. He also has had multiple hits in six of his last eight games.

* USC Upstate: Nine of the 10 runs the Spartans allowed in Sunday's loss at UNC Asheville were unearned. Reese Dutton (6-2) has a 2.67 ERA with 63 strikeouts and 15 walks in 54 innings.

* Voorhees: Isaiah Palmer was 5-for-10 in the Continental Athletic Conference showdown over the weekend. Miles McCoy was 4-for-10, Keelen Sloan 3-for-8 and Jordyn Hill was 3-for-10.

* Winthrop: The Eagles'.263 team batting is the highest it has been since March 10, when it was .268. The staff ERA of 5.98 is the lowest it has been since March 15, when it was 5.94.

* Wofford: Ryan Galanie continues to put up fantastic numbers. He was 10-for-18 last week and is batting .442 with 10 homers and 45 RBI. He also leads the Terriers with 61 hits and 43 runs scored. Cameron Gill (.412) and Trey Yunger (.351) are other major contributors to a .327 team batting average. Yunger was 9-for-16 last week. Gunnar Johnson has played in just 14 games, but has 5 homers, 23 RBI and a .366 batting average. On the mound, Lucas Mahlstedt has a 1.94 ERA, a 4-0 record and 4 saves in 14 appearances.
