Bourret comes through with Tigers tidbits

Tim Bourret, AKA "Clemson Google" for his vast knowledge of Tigers athletics, shares these items:

* Clemson
takes a 16-game winning streak into Friday's regional opener with Lipscomb. It's the longest streak entering the tournament in school history, topping the nine-win streaks in 1991 and 2016.

* The Tigers won four ACC championships in an academic year (football, women's golf, men's track, baseball) for the first time since 1998-99.

* Will Taylor
(football and baseball) is the first Clemson athlete to play on two ACC championship sports teams in the same academic year since James Trapp (football, track) in 1991-92. The last football-baseball combo was by Rusty Charpia in 1988-89.

* Every Clemson baseball coach in the ACC era has won a league championship (regular-season or tournament) in his first season: Bob Smith (1954), Bill Wilhelm (1958), Jack Leggett (1994), Monte Lee (2016) and Erik Bakich (2023).

* Caden Grice
leads Clemson in homers (16) and wins (8). No Tiger has completed a season leading the team in both.

(Bourret came to Clemson as a sports information assistant in the mid-1970s - I'm old enough to have dealt with the guy he replaced - and has done of magnificent job, even though he officially "retired" a few years back. It's guys like Tim who made it easy for sports writers like me - Rudy)
