Eagles to get Interdonato

Multiple outlets are reporting longtime Wofford coach Todd Interdonato has reached agreement to take the same position. at Boston College. He would replace Mike Gambino at the ACC school. Gambino left Chestnut Hill to become head coach at Penn State.

Interdonato has a 445-421-1 record in 17 seasons in Spartanburg. He has directed his teams to winning records in nine of the last 10 seasons, including unprecedented success on the NCAA Division I level.  The Terriers won Southern Conference regular-season titles in 2021 and 2022.

Morlando wins HR Derby

P.J. Morlando of Summerville has had quite a few eventful days recently. He won the High School Home Run Derby in Seattle Monday night as part of the MLB All-Star Game activities. He had advanced to the finals as one of the two top finishers in a field of eight in Saturday's qualifying rounds.

Last Friday he was named most valuable player at the Major League Baseball/USA High School All-Star Game.

The rising senior outfielder at Summerville High committed last week to play at South Carolina, although his high ranking among the 2024 high school class makes playing for the Gamecocks an unlikely outcome.

Former Winthrop player dies

Evan Ames, who played in 15 games for Winthrop in 2022, died last week in Fort Myers, Fla. He played the 2023 season at Chipola College in Florida and had planned to transfer to Georgia State for 2024. Chipola coach Jeff Johnson said Ames was found in his home bedroom. No cause of death was announced.
