Palmetto State Baseball team of the week, March 11-17: USC Upstate

USC Upstate (5-0 for the week)
(went 2-0 vs. Tennessee Tech, went 3-0 vs. Gardner-Webb)

It would be hard to imagine a team being hotter than that Spartans have been during their eight-game winning streak. They had to overcome a deficit in each of the first five games - winning three times in walk-off fashion.

Upstate followed that with a sweep of Gardner-Webb to open Big South Conference play. Game 1 was via a 4-0 shutout and the finale was a 20-2 rout halted in the seventh inning because of the run rule.

The Spartans have scored 81 runs during the streak while batting .357, raising the team mark to .322

Up next: South Carolina, at Fluor Field, Tuesday.
