USC Union (2-2 for the week)
(went 2-2 vs. Gaston College)
I can't say for sure whether I've ever had a team of the week winner who went .500 for the week in question - until today.
What USC Union accomplished was just took much to ignore.
On both Saturday and Sunday, nationally top-ranked junior college power Gaston College drubbed the Bantams in Game 1 of a doubleheader, only to have coach Micah Stancil's USC Union squad rebound to win the nightcap by a single run.
Gaston College won the series opener, 31-11, in five innings and led 28-0 until the Bantams scored 10 runs in the fourth. How would you like to have been going back on defense after a 10-run inning, realizing you're still down by 18?
USC Union bounced back to take the second game, 5-4, on Michael Barron's walk-off double.
It was more of the same on Sunday. Gaston took a five-inning 14-0 win in Game 1, but couldn't solve Bantams starter Blake Baldwin in his 5 1/3 innings of the nightcap. A Mason Elron hit in the fifth put the Bantams ahead and they held on.
Up next: Saturday-Sunday at Florence-Darlington Tech, which took over first place in NJCAA Region 10 with the assist from the Bantams.
