It's Memorial Day

In between cookouts (any self-respecting Southerner will tell you barbecue is a noun, NOT a verb), trips to the pool, making ice cream or eating watermelon today, please take some time to reflect on why we have a Memorial Day.

Pictured above is my wife Doris's uncle, F.M. Norton, who was killed in action in Europe on Jan. 25, 1945. He is buried in France.

Our freedoms did not come without cost.
