Chants hire Williams

Coastal Carolina has hired Matt Williams as its pitching coach. He joins the staff of Kevin Schnall, a longtime Chanticleers assistant who was promoted to replace the retired Gary Gilmore.

Williams, a Lancaster native, most recently served as pitching coach at South Carolina in 2024. Before that he was at Liberty.

Williams played for Tim Wallace at Spartanburg Methodist and later served as an assistant for the Pioneers.

I'm glad to see Williams land on his feet so quickly after not being retained by new Gamecocks coach Paul Mainieri. Williams didn't have much SEC-caliber talent to work with in his season with the Gamecocks, so I don't think USC's pitching struggles can be laid solely at his feet.-Rudy
