Eagles introduce McGuire

Winthrop officially introduced Mike McGuire as its next baseball coach on Friday. McGuire, a former assistant with the Eagles, moved over from USC Upstate.

"I would like to thank President Edward Serna and Athletic Director Chuck Rey for this opportunity and the commitment they are making to Winthrop baseball," McGuire said in a release issued by the school. "This is a program that at one time was among the top mid major programs in the country.  I believe it can be once again, and I'm excited to get to work."

 "It is great to have Mac back home! We've known each other from when we were both assistant coaches at Winthrop," Rey said. "He is a man of the utmost integrity who guides young men the right way, is a passionate leader, and a winner. He has been a part of some of the greatest achievements in Eagle baseball history, has great respect from the Winthrop community, and we know he is the right man to lead this program to even greater successes."

Collegiate National Team sets coaching staff

The coaching staff for the 2024 Collegiate National Team has been completed by USA Baseball.

Earlier this year, retired Coastal Carolina coach Gary Gilmore was named as manager for the summer league tour team, which will compete against teams from the Appalachian and Coastal Plain Leagues.

Jose Vazquez of Alabama State will be manager of the squad for an international friendly series against Chinese Taipei. His staff will include Skylar Meade of Troy and Mark Calvi of South Alabama. Both served as pitching coach at South Carolina earlier in their careers.

Former Clemson standout Kier Meredith will be an assistant coach.
