Chlup helps accident victim

Former North Greenville player Marek Chlup was one of three people associated with the Lake Country Dockhounds minor league team who helped provide aid to a bicyclist who was hurt in an Aug. 7 collision in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Chlup, teammate Demetrius Sims and announcer Dominic Stearn of the American Association club were sightseeing when they came upon the aftermath of the accident.

A story on the Dockhounds' website (link below) says Chlup ran a quarter mile to get additional help and some bandages.

“If you see a person on the ground with their head bleeding, you’re going to want to help,” the story quoted Chlup as saying. “Our first reaction was to run over there, and once I realized what was needed, I kept running for help.”

“That’s 10 out of 10, that’s who Chlup is,” Sims was quoted as saying. “He’s a great clubhouse guy and a great person. Dom and I weren’t surprised by what he did. That’s just who he is, how he was raised, the kind of person he is.”

Chlup is hitting .247 with seven homers in his second season with the independent league club based in  Oconomowoc, Wisc.
