SEC, Hoover extend tournament deal

The Hoover (Ala.) Sun news website reports the Southeastern Conference and the city of Hoover will extend their deal for the SEC baseball tournament to be played in the Birmingham suburb through 2028 with a four-year extension, with a pair of additional one-year options available.

The Hoover City Council is to vote on the agreement on Monday. Specifics of the agreement were not made available, but part of it calls for the city to make improvements to Hoover Metropolitan Stadium in time for the 2025 tournament in May.

Assey retires

Longtime Midlands baseball coach Charlie Assey Sr. is retiring, according to The State newspaper. He won more than 500 games in his career, with Gray Collegiate his most recent stop.

CofC touts big announcement.

College of Charleston baseball's X account teases a "big announcement" is coming in connection with the Cougars' Nov. 7 fall exhibition game with South Carolina at Patriots Point. I have no clue of what the announcement is, but from a selfish viewpoint I hope is to announce the game will be televised by the Palmetto Sports and Entertainment network, which is scheduled to begin broadcasting in October.

The network is being organized by Gray Media stations in Charleston, Columbia, Gtreenville and Myrtle Beach-Florence.

Again, I know nothing, but I can hope, can't I?

Decommitment
