Clemson pitchers stymied South Carolina's offense for the third straight day and the Tigers' offense again added insurance in the late innings in Columbia Sunday night to complete a series sweep.

Tigers starter Justin LeGuernic and reliever Joe Allen struck out six batters apiece in shutting out the Gamecocks (9-3) on two hits through seven innings.

Clemson (10-1) cobbled its first three hits of the game into a run against USC starter Dylan Eskew  in the fifth inning.

Collin Priest smacked a three-run homer in the eighth inning  to give the Tigers a four-run lead.

Carolina scored twice in the bottom of the inning, but an interference  call at second base on an apparent throwing error resulted in an inning-ending double play.

The Tigers iced the game with four runs in the ninth.

Clemson pitchers struck out 15 USC hitters.

Jarren Purify had two of Clemson's eight hits. Ethan Petry and Nathan Hall had two of USC's five hits.

"I'm proud of our team," said Clemson coach Erik Bakich. "It's not easy to come in here and and play as well as we did, especially when you have an opportunity to get the sweep and to be able to put an exclamation mark on on the weekend.

"It was just incredible effort all the way around, and there were so many positives today," Bakich said. "We had six two-out RBI. Joe Allen came in and just pitched unbelievable in relief."

"It was three really tough, hard-fought games," said Gamecocks coach Paul Mainieri. "We came up short and all three of them. I know how much it means to South Carolina fans, and feel bad that we didn't come through for them.

"But, there's nothing we can do about it at this point except for keep improving and working on the things we need to work on."

"We're going to need to hit more than we did this weekend to give some support to the pitchers," Mainieri said. "You don't want them thinking any, one little mistake is going to cost them." (quotes via Clemson and USC YouTube accounts)
