It's seven weeks until the NCAA Division I schools can begin regular season play, but schools on other levels don't have to wait that long.
In fact, at least three state schools begin the regular season Jan. 31. USC Beaufort begins its first season as an NAIA program with a noon home doubleheader against Southern Wesleyan.
Also, USC Salkehatchie has a 1 p.m. home doubleheader that same day against Walters State.
I haven't been able to find schedules for Benedict, Coker or Morris yet, so the number of January games could go up.
