I just watched the MLB Network's rebroadcast of Don Larsen's perfect game in the 1956 World Series. What a treat.
Legends Vin Scully and Mel Allen did the TV play-by-play.
Bob Costas had periodic interviews with Larsen and Yogi Berra, the Yankees' catcher that day, between innings in the network studios. There was lots of information shared, such as the fact Yankees ace Whitey Ford was warming up in the bullpen during the last few innings.
They even left in lots of the commercials from back in the day. I remember having the pocket-sized baseball encyclopedia they were hawking with the Gillette razors.
It was also interesting to learn that the Yankees had Larsen throw out the first pitch to Berra before David Cone pitched his perfect game.
Watch it when you get a chance!
