News Digest, Feb. 20, Part 2

Benedict picked third
Benedict was picked to finish third in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's East Division in a vote of league coaches. In addition, the Tigers' Brandon Gipson and Nate Caldwell were preseason all-conference picks at shortstop and third base, respectively.

  • CSU site changes
    Charleston Southern has announced that a pair of games scheduled to be played at Collins Park have been moved to Buccaneer Ballpark on campus. The schedule on CSU's Website only lists home games, not location, so I'm not sure if any other games are scheduled for Collins Park.

  • Paladins without Lee
    Ryan Lee, an offensive lineman on Furman's football team who played in 52 games for the baseball team last season, apparently has opted to concentrate on football this spring. His name was on the Furman baseball roster earlier this month, but it is no longer there. Lee started 48 games last year, batting .280.

    Limestone reschedules games
    Limestone has rescheduled its twice-postponed doubleheader against Bluefield State for noon Sunday.

  • CSS schedule coming
    Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast is apparently getting close to posting its baseball schedule for 2009. Two games showed up on its Web site today.
