Winthrop's Matteo D'Angelo has been selected to play for his native Italy in the World Cup beginning later this month.

    First-year Lander coach Kermit Smith has announced the incoming class of 13 recruits. Three are from South Carolina.

  • Jackson wins AAA debut
    Taylors resident and former Furman pitcher Jay Jackson won his first start for the Iowa Cubs on Sunday, allowing one run over six innings in a 3-1 victory over Albuquerque. He allowed five hits, walked three and struck out four.
    Jackson spent most of the season at AA Tennessee -- getting the win in the Southern League All-Star Game -- before being sent to Advanced Class A Daytona Beach late in the season.
