Before we hit the news, a mini-moan: Someone at work beat me to the punch in asking off for Feb. 19, opening day for most DI teams. I'm bummed.
State players honored
Pitchers Cody Wheeler of Coastal Carolina and Tyler Mizenko of Winthrop are second-team selections in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's preseason all-American team in NCAA Division I. South Carolina first baseman Nick Ebert and College of Charleston shortstop Joey Bergman are on the third team.
