The Oakland A's have invited former University of South Carolina outfielder Marcus McBeth and former The Citadel infielder Dallas McPherson to spring training in 2010. McBeth, a Woodruff native, made the transition to pitcher as a pro and had 23 relief appearances with Cincinnati in 2007. He had a 2.67 ERA and .189 opponents' batting average with Boston's AAA Pawtucket farm team in 2009. The A's drafted McBeth in the fourth round of the 2001 draft. McPherson, who missed the 2009 season with back problems, hit 18 home runs over parts of four seasons with the California Angels.

The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball announced the suspension after Dawkins' second positive test for a drug of abuse in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
