Wando freshman commits to USC
Nick Ciuffo, a 14-year-old freshman catcher at Wando High School, has committed to play for the University of South Carolina beginning in 2014, Phil Kornblutt. Ciuffo is a son of Tony Ciuffo, the radio voice of College of Charleston basketball.

    Former University of South Carolina first baseman Justin Smoak, now a Texas Rangers prospect, has been named the International Baseball Federation's player of the year in the senior athletic category. Smoak was named the MVP as the USA won the 2009 Baseball World Cup.
