Hoover Gets Competition For SEC Tournament

The Birmingham News reports five cities intend to join Hoover, Ala., in placing bids to host the Southeastern Conference Tournament beginning in 2012. The other cities are Duluth, Ga.; Jackson, Miss.; Jacksonville; Memphis and Montgomery.

I've been attending the tournament since 2002, and while Regions Park is showing its age (22 years), the event is well-run, folks are friendly and there are plenty of good restaurants nearby.

Personally, I would be surprised if the tournament goes to Jacksonville or Duluth because they are so far from the center of the SEC footprint.

If it doesn't return to Hoover, my uneducated guess is it goes to Memphis. Then, my wife could visit Graceland again and we could eat ribs at Charlie Vergo's Rendezvous.
