The University of South Carolina begins spring workouts with scrimmages Friday (3:30 p.m.), Saturday (1 p.m.) and Sunday (1:30 p.m.) at Carolina Stadium.
Tanner, Powell honored
USC baseball coach Ray Tanner and former player Landon Powell were honored Tuesday at the Raleigh Hot Stove League Banquet.

Defending national champion South Carolina is No. 7 in Baseball America's preseason top 25 announced today. Clemson is No. 10 and College of Charleston No. 20. No. 1 Florida is coached by ex-Clemson assistant Kevin O'Sullivan and No. 4 Vanderbilt is coached by ex-Tigers assistant Tim Corbin.
Bulldogs announce signees
The Citadel has announced seven signees, three from South Carolina high schools, for the 2011-12 season.
Peach Belt preseason team announced
USC Aiken's Nick Aranas and Stephen Carmone and Francis Marion's Preston Shuey are on the Peach Belt Conference's preseason all-conference team selected by league coaches.
