Gamecocks hold banquet
USC held its 2012 baseball awards banquet Thursday night in Columbia. The players received their College World Series rings. Christian Walker was named most outstanding player and Matt Price and Michael Roth received most outstanding pitcher awards.

Kent State assistant honored
Kent State's Mike Birkbeck, a former major-league pitcher, has been named Baseball America's assistant coach of the year for 2012. Birkbeck helped the Flashes reach the College World Series. The 2011 winner was USC's Chad Holbrook, who has since become the Gamecocks' head coach.

Longwood coach retiring
Longwood will play its first season in the Big South Conference in 2013. It will also be Buddy Bolding's final season as the Lancers' coach after a 35-year career.
