Chants popular
I mentioned on Monday that Coastal Carolina was CollegeBaseballInsider.com's pick to win the Big South Conference based on conversations with league coaches. I neglected several players picked for  league superlatives. Tyler Herb was a unanimous choice and was joined by teammate Ryan Connolly as being ranked among the top starting pitchers. Coastal's Aaron Burke was rated the top closer. Jacob May earned three distinctions: best outfield arm, best defensive outfielder and top baserunner. Gary Gilmore of the Chanticleers was named the top "game coach." Winthrop's Tyler Olesczuk also was rated as having the best outfielder arm and Presbyterian's Brad Zebedis was ranked among the top power-hitting threats.

The Spartans' Gaither Bumgardner was honored for best defensive outfielder, best outfield arm, one of the best pure hitters and one of the toughest hitters to strike out.
