USC chasing makeup game
Scott Hood of GamecockCentral.com reports the University of South Carolina is considering its options to replace the rain-canceled Vanderbilt game in order to reach the 56-game NCAA limit. The date targeted is May 14, when Presbyterian is in town.
It may be easier said than done.
If USC tries to play two on that date, it almost certainly would have to be against an out-of-state team unless the Gamecocks were to try to schedule an NCAA Division II team, an in-state NCAA Division I team loses a game to weather in the interim or an in-state team adjusts its schedule.
Nine of the state's 10 other NCAA D1 teams have games scheduled that day. The other team, Wofford, has 56 games scheduled. So does PC.
MEAC teams are out because that league's tournament begins May 14.
A quick check of schools in Georgia and North Carolina indicate Davidson, Elon, Georgia Southern and Kennesaw State as possibilities, unless some of those schools played fall games which counted toward their 56-game limit.
