PALMETTOSTATEBASEBALL.COM TEAM OF THE WEEK, MAY 6-12: CLEMSON

Jack Leggett has a young Clemson squad in the mix to be
a regional host in the NCAA Tournament.
Clemson (7-0)
went 2-0 against Maryland; went 2-0 against Furman; went 3-0 against Georgia Southern

Remember back in March when South Carolina took two of three games against Clemson? The Clemson fan message boards were peppered with critics of Jack Leggett.

I wonder how they feel today.

The Tigers took some lumps early but have roared back to fashion a 37-15 record. They enter next week's series at Florida State with a chance to win the ACC Atlantic Division title and earn a high seed for the league tournament.

A division title and a win or two in the conference tournament would make it awfully tough for the NCAA to deny Clemson one of 16 regional host positions when the field is announced later this month.

Clemson had a rare seven-game week - with two of the games makeups of rainouts earlier in the season. The Tigers were magnificent in all facets of the game::

Stats for Clemson's week
Batting average
- .349
Stolen bases - 20
Innings pitched/earned runs - 63/11 (5 of the earned runs were in Sunday's game)
Earned-run average -
1.57
Strikes/walks - 48/24
Opponents batting average - .220.

What should be a scary prospect for Clemson opponents for future seasons is that most of the pitching production came from underclassmen.

Clemson is looking like it's going to be a player on the national scene for the next few seasons.
