USC AIKEN, COKER HEADED TO SOUTHEAST REGIONAL

USC Aiken will be the second seed in the Southeast Region and play No. 5 Georgia College at 3 p.m. Thursday in a first-round game of the NCAA Division II playoffs in Mount Olive, N.C.

Coker, which won the Conference Carolinas Tournament, will be the No. 4 seed and meet No. 3 Armstrong Atlantic at 11 a.m. at Scarborough Field.

The third matchup in the six-team, double-elimination regional has top seed and host Mount Olive, regular-season champion in Conference Carolinas, facing South Atlantic Conference Tournament champion Lincoln Memorial, the sixth seed, at 7 p.m.

USC Aiken won the Peach Belt Conference regular-season title but went two-and-out in the league tournament. Georgia College won the tournament.

Lander, which was ranked in the top 10 nationally much of the season, failed to earn a bid after it stumbled down the stretch in the regular season, then went 1-2 in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament on its home field.  The Bearcats likely were contending with Montevallo and UNC Pembroke for the third Peach Belt bid earned by Armstrong Atlantic.

Winners of the 8 six-team, double-elimination regionals advance to the Division II College World Series in Cary, N.C.
