NO. 1 TAR HEELS NEXT FOR GAMECOCKS

There were fleeting moments Monday night when it appears South Carolina might get to be at home for this weekend's NCAA Baseball Super Regional, but a resilient top-ranked North Carolina team came through play a champion.

The Tar Heels beat Florida Atlantic, 12-11, in 13 innings Monday night/Tuesday morning to win the Chapel Hill Regional. Florida Atlantic rallied from a 6-2 ninth-inning deficit to take an 8-6 lead, only to have UNC rally to tie, the game at 8-8.

The Owls went ahead 11-8, but UNC again rallied to make it 11-11.

North Carolina then got the winner in the 13th.

Soon after that game ended the dates and times for the Chapel Hill Super Regional were announced:

Game One is at 1 p.m. Friday and will be televised on ESPN2. Game Two is at Noon Saturday on ESPN. A third game, if necessary, would be at 1 p.m. Sunday on ESPN.

The USC-UNC winner will join seven other Super Regional winners in Omaha for the College World Series later this month.
