Pankake headed for Omaha
University of South Carolina rising junior Joey Pankake has been selected to compete in the TD Ameritrade Home Run Derby on Wednesday in Omaha. The Easley native joins two other Upstate residents - Anderson's Garrett Boulware of Clemson and Mauldin's Bo Thompson of Clemson - in the competition.

Clemson's Matthew Crownover, South Carolina's Max Schrock and College of Charleston's Carl Wise have been named second-team freshman all-America by Baseball America.

Mooney picks USC
Marcus Mooney, younger brother of former South Carolina shortstop Peter Mooney, has committed to play for the Gamecocks, TheBigSpur.com reports. The shortstop comes to USC from Palm Beach State (Community) College in Florida. Mooney will enroll this fall. The Gamecocks plan to move Joey Pankake to another position, opening shortstop for competition between Mooney and others.

Jackson to transfer
TheBigSpur.com also reports former Wren High star Tyler Jackson is transferring from USC to a junior college. Jackson was redshirted in 2013.

Former Wade Hampton High star Kyle Martin, now at USC, homered for the High Point-Thomasville HiToms and scored both of his team's runs in a 5-2 loss to the U.S. College National Team Saturday night.

Limestone's McAllister honored
K.J. McAllister of the Asheboro Copperheads has been named Coastal Plain League hitter of the week. The Limestone player had a streak of seven consecutive hits over a series with High Point-Thomasville. He went 10-1for-15 with 3 doubles and an .867 slugging percentage.
